Boost for local schools

Schools across Winchester and Chandler's Ford are benefiting from £5.3 million of extra funding thanks to a Lib Dem policy delivered in government.

This ‘Pupil Premium’ is targeted to help children from disadvantaged backgrounds and service families. Headteachers are given the freedom to decide what will benefit their pupils the most.

Former teacher Jackie Porter commented: “This money can be spent in the best way for each school; whether that’s breakfast clubs, extra resources or one-on-one tuition. This targeted investment helps ensure children get the best start in life, regardless of their background.”

Every child taught by a qualified teacher

The Liberal Democrats want to ensure every child is taught by a qualified teacher. This ‘parental guarantee’, supported by headteachers, will be included in the Lib Dem’s 2015 manifesto.

"Making sure every child is taught by a qualified teacher, is essential in giving every child the best opportunities in life," commented Prospective MP Jackie.

"My residents' surveys have shown real support for this principle. I look forward to going into the general election on May 7th 2015 with a strong plan to help local children get the best possible start in life. I want to deliver the Lib Dem commitments to ring-fence the education budget, give young people help with the cost of transport and make sure every child in our schools is taught by a qualified teacher."
