Hundreds of people backed Winchester Liberal Democrats' 'Trip to the shops' campaign while they were out doing the Christmas shopping on Saturday.

Liberal Democrat campaigner Martin Tod commented:

"There was very strong support for this campaign. Hundreds of people signed up. People were turning round in the street to come back and sign it."

There were also a lot of shocking stories of trips, falls and even visits to A&E caused by the state of the pavements and poor maintenance by the Conservative-run County Council. We also got some useful information about the most dangerous places which we will be following up for action.

We hope more people will report danger areas via our special website at www.triptotheshops.com

The picture shows Martin Tod collecting signatures from members of 'Christmas Clog', a group of Hampshire morris dancers fundraising for Naomi House (www.naomihouse.org.uk), a local children's hospice.

Winchester residents can sign the petition or report problems at http://www.triptotheshops.com.
