Mark Oaten, Liberal Democrat MP for Winchester and the Meon Valley, has called for the Conservative run Council to stop its resistance to train use promotion among Winchester's commuters.

The Winchester MP is calling for an increase in parking spaces at the train station in Winchester. Currently the stations parking area is often full by 9am, putting many commuters off from traveling by train.

"With the council consistently opposing any expansion of the station car parking facilities, local residents have had to suffer," says local MP Mark Oaten. "The lack of available parking discourages train travel from Winchester and forces more cars onto the road and causes congestion for local people."

The Conservative policy to refuse any expansion of car park carpark combined with their planned increase to Park and Ride charges brings in to question whether the Conservatives are taking environmental challenges as seriously as they should be.
