Winchester MP Mark Oaten Slams Post Office Proposals to Transfer to WHSmith7.30.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Tue 1st May 2007 The Post Office have announced plans that they intend to move 70 of their branches in town and city centres into WHSmith stores under a new partnership agreement before the end of July 2007. Winchester has been identified as one of the 70 and Winchester MP Mark Oaten has slammed the idea, saying: "I simply can't see how this can work. The Post Office is nearly always full of people and WHSmiths is a packed shop - two into one is a recipe for total chaos and will not work. A Crown Post Office is essential to a large City like Winchester. Now we are going to get second best. I urge people to fight this in the short consultation period ahead."
