Martin Tod says Winchester deserves better from the Post Office10.36.50am BST (GMT +0100) Tue 24th Apr 2007 In response to the proposed move of the post office into W.H. Smith, Martin Tod commented:
"Moving the post office into Smith's might be a good idea in some city's, but how will it work in Winchester? Without a new site, their plans will just cause even more traffic chaos in St George's Street. And Smith's often has long queues already - even before adding a post office. The risk is that they'll just end up combining the two longest queues in Winchester. My experience of campaigning against post office closures is that post office management are not good at listening. We will need to take a strong line to ensure that local people's concerns are addressed." The Liberal Democrats have launched a website - savewinchesterpostoffice.com where local people can have their say about the proposed plans.
