Freedom of Information but not if you're a Labour or Conservative MP4.28.18pm BST (GMT +0100) Fri 8th Jun 2007 There are only a few days left to lobby the House of Lords to vote against the special exemption from the Freedom of Information Act voted through by Labour and Conservative MPs on Friday 18th May. I've helped put together a website at http://www.ourcampaign.org.uk/foi with details of a petition against the new Bill and information about how to lobby members of the House of Lords to vote against it. The campaign for Freedom of Information has a useful briefing about the bill at http://www.cfoi.org.uk/macleanbill.html The Bill's supporters have not attempted to explain why MPs, and MPs alone, should be excluded in this way from legislation which they themselves have applied to the whole public sector. They continue to insist, against all the evidence, that the measure is needed to protect constituents' privacy. Visit the Lib Dem campaign site and also tell friends and colleagues who you think may be interested in taking action to stop the bill going through.
