Tower Arts Centre: decision delay welcomed

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Tue 18th Sep 2007

Following confirmation of the decision to delay the final Tower Arts Centre decision to December 2007, Liberal Democrat Councillor Charlotte Bailey who attended the meeting where the decision was taken, commented:

"Good news at last. The Conservatives have wasted more than a year and caused a lot of anger with their incompetent handling of the project so far. We want a solution that improves arts provision in Winchester. The previous Conservative plan was going to make it worse".

Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate, Martin Tod, who has been actively involved in the campaign, commented:

"At last we now have a chance to get a much better project that protects arts provision at the Tower and improves arts provision in Winchester. I was beginning to think the Conservatives would never listen. Hopefully we will now see a plan that understands that the Tower is not just about the building, but also about the programme and the people that go in it!"
