Martin Tod is calling for action on hidden waiting lists

Martin Tod's campaigning is delivering results for Winchester residents

Responding to the news that Winchester City Council is planning to make a small contribution in 2009 towards the recently announced HCC plan to redevelop the High Street, Councillor Jim Maynard - Liberal Democrat City Councillor for much of the town centre area commented:

At last the Conservatives are giving in to local pressure to improve the pavements in Winchester, although it's galling that the City Council should have to pay towards the project to compensate for the County Council's failure to properly maintain Winchester's pavements over the years. And waiting until 2009 suggests they are still not treating the problem as urgently as they should.

Hyde resident, Martin Tod, Prospective Liberal Democrat MP for Winchester added:

This is only the start. We launched the Trip to the Shops campaign last December because local people were telling us how unhappy they were with the pavements right across the district - not just in the centre of Winchester. We will keep campaigning right across the area. When the pavements are upgraded, we also want to be reassured that they will be inspected more frequently and repaired more quickly and that we will no longer have heavy lorries cracking the paving stones only a few days after they have been put down.
