Liberal Democrats have welcomed the new 30 mph speed limit in Church Lane, Colden Common which came into effect on 29th July.

The news comes after a long campaign by local residents and councillors to make the road safer.

City and County Councillor Peter Mason said,

"This is great news for our area. Local people have campaigned hard for over many years to get a lower speed limit on this road and I am so pleased that all of their efforts have paid off. The local Lib Dem team have been keen to help in any way to make sure the 30mph limit went ahead."

Martin Tod added:

"At last. This is really good news. It's taken longer than it should have done and there are still many other areas where people want slower speeds and haven't got them. Now that the new speed limit is in place, the essential thing is that it is properly enforced. There are still trucks, cars and bikes going down Church Lane too fast. The job won't be done until we see traffic speeds significantly reduced."
