A Better Hampshire for Everyone

Hampshire Liberal Democrats want to see a County Council whose priorities match what ordinary people and families are concerned about. Hampshire has many services we can all be proud of but there are still areas for improvement. Our County Candidates will work hard not only for their communities but to make the County Council more responsive to your needs and less concerned with Government targets.

Fairer

  • No County Council Tax rise next year

  • Cut Publicity costs and waste

  • Support local companies and jobs

Reserves built up at the County Council mean services can be maintained without increasing the County's Council Tax charge next year. Cutting the budget for publicity in half can supply more funding to help businesses through the recession, provide better buses, more youth services and stop an increase in school meal charges.

Safer

  • Fix our roads, pavements and verges

  • Lower speed limits where residents want them

  • Keep young people safe and active after school

Hampshire's main roads are among the worst in the Country. Liberal Democrats would make fixing our roads a priority. It's not just the roads, we also want to live in neighbourhoods and villages where we all feel we can walk and cycle safely.More money needs to be spent on our pavements and paths and where high traffic speeds are part of the problem we will work to reduce them. There are very few places young people can go that doesn't cost much money. We want to change this, get them off the streets or away from their games consoles and taking part in healthier and more sociable activities.

Greener

  • Help small businesses recycle

  • Cheaper travel for children and better bus services

  • Cut Council energy use (and its bills!)

For many small businesses recycling is a cost they can ill afford, making it easier for them is good for the planet and the local economy. Bus services are declining in many areas when the County should be encouraging more people to use them - we would stop the cuts and work on making it easier for young people to use the bus instead of being driven everywhere. Many County buildings, especially some schools are very inefficient - investing money now in energy saving will leave more to be spent on services later.
