Quiet please

Many residents and drivers have noticed the reduction in noise caused by the new quiet surfaces on parts of the M3.

After many years of campaigning against road noise, this is good news, but it's only the beginning. In many cases only one or two of the three lanes on the motorway have been resurfaced, and many areas have been left untouched.

The latest government noise maps recognise that motorway road noise through Eastleigh and Chandler's Ford is amongst the worst in the country.

We want action to fix this with quiet surfaces across all the lanes of the motorways and, if necessary, noise barriers in the affected areas.

Please back our petition calling on the Government and the Highways Agency to need to finish the job and resurface the roads whose noise is blighting local people's lives.

To the Secretary of State for Transport:

The Highways Agency has started to put low noise surfaces on motorways and trunk roads near residential areas in South Hampshire, but in many cases in only completely one or two out of three lanes.

We, the undersigned, call upon the government to finish the job and give us back our peace and quiet.

With the windows opened because it’s been so hot the road noise has been relentless. I’ve always wondered if they were to plant evergreen trees along the side of the M3 it would help with noise and air pollution.

Wherever you are in Chandlers Ford you can hear the motorway traffic. If the wind is blowing in the wrong direction sitting in the garden can be unpleasant.

Last week I stayed at my parents house in Westfield Road, Chandlers Ford. The motorway noise kept me awake at night.

I have lived here all my life and the noise has increased terribly. When the trees and bushes are pruned and cleared it’s terrible. Anything that could help reduce the noise would be well received.

With all the money being sent building more lanes why oh why are they doing something about the horrendous noise pollution from this motorway? Action needed NOW the surfaces have proved it works.
