Scrap the Street Hubs

The residents of Winchester and the thousands of visitors who visit our city each year demand, in the strongest terms, that BT stop their plans to install five large digital advertising screens on our streets. The Street Hubs, planned to be installed on Jewry Street, St George’s Street and at three locations down our historic, busy High Street will be an eyesore, an environmental burden and an incredibly bad use of space. Further, they will serve no useful purpose to residents in an age of hyper connected smartphones and 5G.

We see this plan as a trojan horse to install digital advertising screens in our beautiful city, collecting data from residents and surrounding businesses - an affront to our thousands of years of history, culture and independence.

Reasons to scrap the plan:

  1. Our city is beautiful. These screens are ugly.
  2. Our streets are busy. These screens will block up space on them.
  3. Our resources are precious. These screens will use an unnecessary amount of power.
  4. Our High Street is everyone’s. These screens are a corporation trying to monetise our residents.
