Constituency Charity Walk 2020

On Saturday 29th February we are holding a Constituency Walk to raise money for the Wessex Cancer Trust.

After the GE many members and supporters spoke about wanting to give something back to the community, and what better day to do it on than Saturday 29th February - the extra day we gain because 2020 is a leap year.

Wessex Cancer Trust, are a local charity based in Chandler’s Ford which provides vital support and services to people both before and after cancer treatment. Sadly, cancer is something that is likely to touch all of our lives, and it’s possible that some of you may know people who have been to the Wessex Cancer Trust as they work across our whole community. They recently launched an emergency appeal and we want to help them.

The walk is approximately 17 miles but you can choose to do the whole route or just a part

Here is the walk outline and timings

  • Register at Alresford Station at 7.45am for a prompt start
  • Leave for Easton at 8am
  • Stop for coffee at the Chestnut Horse, Easton at 10.30am
  • Leave for Winchester at 11.15pm
  • Lunch at the Bishop on the Bridge, Winchester at 1pm

We're hoping that people from every ward in the constituency will take part.

We've set ourselves an ambitious target to raise £4,000, so please start fund raising now or if you aren't able to walk on that day, please sponsor the team.

We've set up just one Liberal Democrat ‘Just Giving’ page because we want this to be a team event, which you can find here:

We're asking every one who takes part to try to raise £100 or if you're part of a ward team for the team to try to raise £300.  So please tell your friends, family & work colleagues you're doing the walk and ask them to sponsor you now.

It's a great cause, a beautiful route and a good way to work together for the good of the community.

If you plan to take part then we strongly recommend a couple of training walks, gradually building up the distance walked.

Please join the “Constituency Walking” WhatsApp group now if you're walking by emailing your mobile number to, so we can keep everyone safe and communicate with you on the day.

Here a list of helpful things to bring along on the day

Pre-Walk Preparation:

o Bring a mobile phone and let a relative/friend know you are walking.
o Put the number of the recover vehicle driver in your phone.
o We will collect your NOK details at the start point and pickup points

Look after your feet at all costs:
o Well fitted walking boots (Wellies, with thick socks and an insole for shorter distance may be okay). Trainers are a no no on this winter walk.
o If you have a pair of gaiters to fit over your boots that’s an added bonus.
o 2 pairs of thin socks to stop blisters, some people like one pair of thick socks, but I find 2 works better.
o Bring a small personal first aid kit, plasters, pain killers etc just in case

• Comfortable clothing:
o The secret is to wear as little as possible without getting chilly
o Have several thin layers to take on and off.
o Make sure your coat is waterproof (not shower proof) bring an extra rollup lightweight coat if in doubt.

• Food and Drink:
o There are plenty of stops on the way, but a couple of high energy bars in your bag are always welcome towards the end of a long walk.
o Bring a large (750ml) water bottle. Water refills will be available at the stops

• Extra’s :
o A map case for the route details or your own map.
o A small ruck sack to carry extra’s.
o A pair of binoculars if you like to look at wildlife.

So there you have it, you're ready to go and we’re delighted that you can join us on the day.

See you on the 29th February at 7.45am for a prompt 8am start if you're coming all the way and don’t forget to get some practice walks in beforehand.
