Electric vehicle charging points to go ahead

Electric vehicle charging points are to be introduced in car parks across the district by the end of the year, as the Liberal Democrats press on with their plans to reduce CO2 and improve air quality.

This includes many car parks in the city, including St Peters, Worthy Lane, Tower Street and Middle Brook Street - as well as in Bishops Waltham, Denmead, Wickham and Alresford. This will support residents and visitors as they gradually switch to electric cars.

Taxi drivers in the district are also being encouraged to make the change as there will be rapid charging points at the Coach Park and near the Guildhall.

The Lib Dems are now looking at more charging points at Park & Ride and for council housing car parks.

Cllr Jackie Porter comments

I’m really delighted this has now got the go ahead. Electric vehicles are not the whole answer to tackling air quality, but they're part of it. We’re also increasing the number of park & ride spaces, introducing park & ride on Sundays and looking at ways to introduce more bus routes.
