Future of Winchester City

You are probably aware that Winchester City Council is a district council covering a large area including towns like Alresford, Bishops Waltham and Whiteley. But did you know that there is effectively no council for the city itself? The smaller towns and villages have parish councils, but the city has no such structure. It has no context in which there is the opportunity to discuss and act on issues that affect the city as a whole, planning in particular. Do you think that's right?
Do come along to a meeting of the Lib Dem City Branch  at 7:30pm on Monday 19th November in Greens bar to start the discussion about how best we can ensure we have an effective means of articulating and implementing policies that work well for our city, the people living within it as well as those who work here and visit the city.
We will also be discussing how we want Winchester to evolve in the future. Do we want it to be a premier business location, a tourist destination,a centre for education and culture, a fabulous shopping experience or a mainly residential area? Maybe we want it to be a mixture, and do we require a plan so that any new developments enhance and add to Winchester's special character?
Liberal Democrat councillors from the city wards will be there to discuss these issues and seek your views, including how to communicate them to the wider electorate.
We look forward to seeing you in the upstairs room, Greens bar, Jewry Street, Winchester at 7:30pm on Monday 19th November.
