Pound Road Surgery Closure

The Pound Road, Kings Worthy surgery of the Friarsgate GP practice is currently closed for essential repairs. Unfortunately there is no clear re-opening date as yet.

Prospective MP Jackie Porter said "This is clearly unacceptable. We must have a local GP surgery to serve our community. To close this surgery without a clear plan to re-open just will not do.

"I would like to inform you what actions I have taken on this to date, aided by our City Councillors Jane Rutter and Robert Johnston.

My main focus is to ensure local services in Kings Worthy are maintained for residents.

1. I have spoken to the Practice Manager to find out exactly what the problem is- so we can see how it can be fixed. I have queried why the risk has suddenly changed, and why that change requires immediate closure for an undefined period.

2. I have referred it as an urgent matter to the Health Overview and Scrutiny Committee at Hampshire County Council - they have a responsibility to scrutinise and challenge any changes to the NHS services including GP services.

3. Robert has found out the timetable of events from Winchester City Council. It seems that these discussions about potential changes have not been ongoing for very long. I have asked for a joint meeting with Councillors, WCC, and Friarsgate Surgery with a view to a timetabled closure for a finite period.

4. As Chairman of the charity managing the Tubbs Hall, I have offered the hall as a venue if they think it useful. Already health visitors weigh babies there every month.

Please sign our petition to help keep our GP service local."
