Location: At present this post will be remote, we do have an office in Winchester and should current circumstances improve there would be the opportunity to work there.

Hours per week: For each researcher, between 10 and 15 hours per week, likely to be more in January to April.  We are looking to recruit two people to cover all aspects of this somewhat diverse skill set.  There is flexibility of hours.

Employee status: given the flexibility of hours payment will be monthly via payroll or on receipt of an invoice, proof of registration for Self-employment will be required in the latter case.

Job Role and Responsibilities: 

  • Analysing reports as well as data to prepare briefings in support of local political work

  • Creating In depth political research and report compilation around various issues 

  • Horizon scanning to identify new opportunities for the local LD to be involved 

  • Monitoring and summarising media coverage and local opposition political activity

  • Drafting correspondence to constituents on a range of topics 

  • Ensuring our messaging has appeal to different audiences

  • Supporting our digital communications including: drafting social media posts and website pages and  translating our comms so they resonate with all levels of the community

  • Admin and technical support for our Policy Development Committee

Key skills required for this role are:

  • Excellent written communication skills

  • Good research and analysis skills, with the ability to summarise complex policy issues succinctly
  • Interpersonal skills, including an ability to work well with Councillors, staff and volunteers and with key members of external organisations such as charities and think tanks
  • An ability to work independently and show initiative
  • Good time management and organisational skills, with the ability to work to deadlines
  • A strong interest in the British political system and current affairs
  • Sympathetic to Liberal Democrat policies
