Watch: Danny Chambers Responds to Delays to the New Hospitals Programme
No guarantee for Winchester's A&E, and no investment in the services we already have...
Patients here in Winchester desperately need a properly funded hospital with a reliable A&E and world-class maternity services. The Conservatives want to shut them down and move them to Basingstoke. I’m determined to to save and improve our A&E and consultant-led maternity services.
Danny Chambers MP
The Conservatives have neglected our NHS for too long, and now there are plans to move Winchester's Accident and Emergency Services and consultant-led services to Basingstoke.
This winter has seen crisis once again strike at Winchester’s hospital.
Despite the incredible work of our NHS heroes, local patients have twice this winter been told to stay away from our hospital due to a lack of beds to treat them.
Vital health services here in Winchester desperately need extra investment and more government support.
Yet, instead of improving them, local Conservatives are backing plans to shut our A&E down and move it miles up the road to Basingstoke.
And now, the new Labour government are making the problem even worse.
They have just announced that there will be no new investment in local hospital services until at least 2037.
Local MP Danny Chambers has twice raised the issue of our A&E and maternity services at Prime Minister's Questions, calling for them to stay in our city and for proper investment to ensure everyone in Winchester and the Meon Valley can access high-quality health care
