Danny Chambers Report Back 2026
Reporting back on Two Years in Parliament
Since being elected as your MP, I've worked hard to make sure Winchester's voice is heard in Parliament and that I continue to be available to residents across our constituency.
Whether it's fighting for better NHS services, standing up for our rural communities, tackling sewage pollution or helping residents with individual problems, my job is to represent Winchester and get things done.
Over the past two years I've been speaking to residents, businesses, community groups, farmers, NHS staff and many others about the issues that matter to them. I've taken those concerns from our surgeries and community visits directly to ministers and into the House of Commons.
This report sets out some of the work I've been doing both in Parliament and across our constituency and the issues I'll continue to fight for on your behalf.
Dr Danny Chambers, MP for Winchester
Helping my constituents is the most important part of my job. Every week, my team and I help people with issues such as housing, utility companies, SEND, the NHS and problems with government departments. If I can help you, please get in touch.”

Danny's plan to fix the NHS
"Our hospital is amazing because of the dedicated staff who work there, but patients and staff deserve the very best facilities.
I'll keep fighting to protect Winchester A&E and secure the investment our hospital needs.”"
Protect and improve Winchester A&E
After years of under-investment, Winchester Hospital has been left to deteriorate. But instead of carrying out repairs, the government has spent millions of pounds on a field in Basingstoke, for a hospital that might never be built.
Danny is pressing the government to urgently fund the repairs and improvements our hospital, staff, and patients desperately need.
We need investment in Winchester Hospital now
More appointments and faster access
Danny is calling for more GP, dentist, and mental health appointments, alongside better access to diagnostics and specialist care, so fewer people end up in A&E because they can’t get help elsewhere.
Fixing access to services is vital to protecting our A&E.
Better social care to free up beds
On average 160 local people who could return home are stuck in hospital because there is no social care package in place.
Danny is campaigning for more social care funding so that patients can return home, freeing up beds for patients who need them.
We can’t fix the NHS if we don’t first fix social care.
Action of the Cost of Living Crisis
With the cost of living continuing to rise and tax bills at their highest in decades, Danny and the Lib Dems have worked hard to improve services while holding costs down.
Energy and Travel Costs
Danny and the Lib Dems have lobbied the Government to cut energy bills, lower rail fares, cap bus fares and reduce fuel duty.
Danny opposed cuts to the Winter Fuel Payments, forcing the government to reverse the cuts.
Supporting Local Jobs
Danny is working in Parliament to secure reforms to business rates and targeted tax changes to reduce pressure on small business, helping to support local jobs and keep prices down.
More money in people's pockets
Danny has campaigned to allow families to keep more of what they earn, and for measures to support lower income workers, and reduce student loan repayments.
Greener, Faster
Protecting the South Downs
Danny and the Lib Dems led the campaign to force government to back down on weakening protections for nature and the landscape in our beautiful national parks.
End Sewage Dumping
Danny has been working to stop water companies dumping sewage into our precious chalk streams.
It is time for a proper regulator with powers to end sewage dumping, and to hold water bosses to account
Rivers Not Roads
Danny spoke in Parliament about the blight of 4x4s driving through the River Meon at Droxford, damaging plants and wildlife. He is calling for the County Council to take urgent action.
Fighting for Bus Services
Danny has presented a petition in Parliament, calling for the County Council to restore vital bus services including the Henry Beaufort Bus and the 61 service. He has also led the campaign against Hampshire’s bus cuts and to retain services across the area.
Britain's Defence
Danny has visited troops at home and abroad to find out about the challenges facing the armed forces. He has also opposed plans to close Winchester’s Army Training base before its replacement is opened.
Standing up for farmers
Having grown up on a farm, Danny understands the difficulties facing the farming and rural communities. Danny strongly opposes the family farm tax, and any measures which would force British farmers to compete with cheap lower standards and imports.
GP Guarantee
Danny has led the Lib Dem campaign for a GP Guarantee in all new housing developments to ensure that they are properly served and there is no strain on existing services.
Fighting for Animal Welfare
Danny’s Private Members Bill changed the law to ban the import of puppies and kittens under 6 months old, which were often being sold by criminal gangs, and of animals who have had their ears cruelly cut off.
Supporting local businesses
Danny regularly meets local businesses and raises their concerns with ministers. He wants to see the government invest in skills and infrastructure, and fix our relationship with Europe.
125 written questions to minister
205 speeches in Parliament
20,000 times helping residents
Danny has attended 676 events in the Winchester Constituency, including visiting local businesses, NHS organisations, schools, colleges, charities, farmers, environmental and community groups, churches and religious organisations to understand the issues they face.
FROM SURGERIES TO PARLIAMENT
One of Danny’s first meetings after being elected was with a group of parents concerned about the impact of addictive social media and harmful online content on children and young people’s mental health.
Since that meeting, Danny has consistently raised this issue with ministers and in the House of Commons, including his campaign to regulate AI Chatbots.
