Comment: Wes Streeting review into New Hospital Programme
Danny says:
I have been closely following the news this week that the Government’s ‘New Hospitals Programme’ - which would have seen Winchester’s A&E and consultant-led maternity services pack up and move to Basingstoke - has been put under urgent review.
The Conservatives’ promise of 40 new hospitals was never credible within the budget proposed. The 2030 end date kicked the can down the road while our hospitals, including Winchester, racked up huge backlogs in much-needed maintenance work.
I welcome this review, but it must be done quickly so that we can start getting investment back into our local NHS services.
The maintenance work and vital repairs to our hospital must be completed quickly. More delays will just damage our struggling NHS even more.
And we must have more investment into health services here in Winchester, improving acute service and ensuring that they continue to be provided in our city.
As your MP, I am fighting for you and for all our hard-working NHS staff to get a fair deal for local health services. I will hold the Government to account over the threat to our local NHS services and ensure your voice is heard.
While we don’t know what the new Government will do about the ‘New Hospitals Programme' after their review, we do know that this mess is one the Conservatives have left us after 14 years of let-down and failure.
I hope now that things will finally start to change for the better, but will keep on standing up for you on this issue here in Winchester and in Parliament.
