Scrap Ofwat and transform water companies to serve the public interest

Danny and Jerry Pett with water

Southern Water has continued to dump sewage into our rivers, and has been responsible for 15 serious pollution incidents this past year alone, the 2nd highest of all the water companies.

I've spoken with farmers who have had their crops ruined by sewage spills and residents who have been overcharged.

They’ve failed to invest over the years in repairing leaks, and now during this dry summer are asking us to do their job for them and tell people to conserve water.

And now, at the same time as they’re increasing bills by hundreds and hundreds of pounds, an almost 50% increase over last year, they have decided to reward their boss with a £1.4million pay deal. Why is the board of Southern Water rewarding this failure?

The good news is that finally, after years of Lib Dem campaigning, Ofwat is being replaced by a tougher regulator. But this fight is far from over. We can't allow delay with these changes.

This government must follow through on their commitments.
