Save The South Downs
We must act now to save the South Downs National Park.
On Monday, the government could be making last minute changes to the planning bill that will remove nature protections in National Parks - including the South Downs here in Hampshire.
Despite a report earlier this year finding that a staggering 90% of rivers in the South Downs National Park are not achieving a good status for nature, the government wants to remove our National Park's abilities to protect nature even further.
Danny Chambers, Lib Dem MP for Winchester says, “We are so lucky that almost 50% of our constituency here in Winchester is in the South Downs National Park, and we know how vital this is. People here are rightly proud of what the National Park is doing to protect access to nature and promote healthy ecosystems. Having such easy access to nature is so vital for people's wellbeing, and contributes millions to the local economy.”
“This is urgent: more than 170 nature organisations have mobilised against these plans, but these plans are a last minute change to the planning bill. We need to act fast to stop this attack on our National Parks and save the South Downs.”
